British Columbia Operations
In February 2001, we established Powell River Energy with the acquisition of two hydroelectric generating stations that have a combined generating capacity of 83 megawatts. Located in Powell River, British Columbia, Powell River Energy is owned 50 percent by the Fund, and 50 percent by Catalyst Paper Corporation.
Lois Lake consists of two generating units with an annual generation of 224 gigawatt hours. Powell River is comprised of five generating units with an annual generation of 309 gigawatt hours. Water for the Powell River and Lois Lake generating stations is stored in two large lakes: Powell Lake, which is approximately 42 kilometres in length, and Lois Lake, that together with three interconnected lakes totals approximately 16 kilometres in length. The Powell River generation assets are located within Catalyst Paper's Corporation paper operation with a shared interconnection to the British Columbia power grid.
